UNLV MEN'S SOCCER

Las Vegas native Danny Musovski scored once in each half, including the game-winner off a penalty kick in the 64th minute to give UNLV a 3-2 victory over Saint Joseph's in men's college soccer action on Friday night from Johann Memorial Field. It was the second game of the Johann Memorial Classic and the Rebels improved to 1-2 on the year while Saint Joseph's dropped to 0-3.

After struggling on offense in its first two games, UNLV came out firing on Friday, scoring less than three minutes into the contest thanks to a goal by Corey Ackley off an assist by Aaron Goo. The Rebels would take a 2-0 lead in the 14th minute with Goo again starting the scoring play. This time Goo won the ball at midfield and sent a high pass towards the box. Musovski knocked down the pass, spun around with the ball and hit a hard shot that went off the crossbar and into the goal.

Saint Joseph's came charging back, cutting the lead to 2-1 in the 17th minute on a shot by Eric Jordan, off a deflected shot by Bliss Harris. The score would then be tied in the 35th minute following a free kick on the left side. Tim Lazorko took the kick and sent a curving shot to the top right post, past the range of Rebel goalkeeper Abdel Rodriguez. The half would end still tied at 2-2.

While the Rebels held a slight 8-7 edge on shots in the first half, they took it to the Hawks in the second half, holding them to just one total shot. UNLV would take 10 shots of its own after halftime, and finished the game with an 18-8 edge on total shots, and 10-4 on shots on goal. The winning goal would come off a penalty kick though, following a handball by the Hawks inside the box. Musovski took the kick and sent a shot down the middle for the score in the 64th minute.

In addition to UNLV's large shot advantage, the Rebels also finished with eight corner kicks to one for Saint Joseph's. Rodriguez posted one save for the Rebels in 45 minutes of action, while Daniel Neale played the final 45 minutes but didn't face a shot. Jay Higbee came up with seven saves in the net for Saint Joseph's.

UNLV will close out action in the Johann Memorial Classic on Sunday when it hosts Pacific at 1 pm at Johann Field.
