Oct. 22, 2016 LAS VEGAS(UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV senior standout Jakob Amilon will play for the singles crown Sunday after advancing through day four of the 2016 ITA Mountain Region Men's Tennis Championships presented by Oracle and being held here at the Darling Tennis Center.
Amilon, 124th ranked and the No. 3 seed, downed 17th-seeded Santiago Sierra of Utah 7-5, 6-3 on Saturday; while Alexandr Cozbinov, seeded fourth, was ousted in a three-set thriller by ninth-seeded Kai Wehnelt of Utah State 1-6, 6-2, 6-3. Amilon and Wehnelt are set to play at 10 a.m. in Sunday's finale.
Members from 16 western teams are facing off as individuals through Sunday each day in both singles and doubles. This is one of 24 USTA/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women taking place over these middle two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country. The singles and doubles champions will advance to the 2016 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place November 3-6, at the indoor facilities at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, located in Flushing, N.Y.
