2016 UNLV Baseball Weekly Notes: Week Five

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels head back to the Golden State for the second time this season for three games in Mountain West Conference play against the Fresno State Bulldogs. The series will run Friday through Sunday at Pete Beiden Field on Fresno State's campus. Friday's and Saturday's contests are scheduled to start at 6:05 pm, while Sunday's is slated for 1:05 pm.

TUNE IN, WATCH & LISTEN: All three games of this weekend's series against the Fresno State Bulldogs will be streamed live and free of charge in conjunction with the Mountain West Network and Campus Insiders. Links to all four contests as well as live stats can be found at UNLVRebels.com.

ON DECK: The UNLV Rebels return to Las Vegas and Earl E. Wilson Stadium for their second six-game homestand of the season. UNLV will welcome the Grand Canyon Antelopes for an afternoon affair Tuesday at 3:05 pm. Two days later, the Rebels and Nevada, Reno will begin a three-game series (March 24-26) that not only counts towards the Mountain West Conference standings, but also the Governor's Series presented by NV Energy and Barrick Gold - the all-encompassing athletic and academic head-to-head competition between the two Silver State institutions. Texas Tech will visit town on March 28-29 for contests on Monday and Tuesday.

50 YEARS & COUNTING: The UNLV Rebels first began playing collegiate baseball during the 1967 campaign. UNLV lost its first contest, a 7-6 decision to Phoenix College. Since that initial affair, the Scarlet & Gray has amassed an overall mark of 1,522-1,245-8 for a .550 winning percentage.

Throughout the season, there will be various contests and promotions centered around the 50th year of Rebel baseball. The program kicked off the year-long celebration with ceremonial first pitches thrown by alumni that individually represented the five decades of baseball at UNLV at the home opener vs. West Virginia. The five that tossed first pitches were Fred Dallimore (former head coach/1967-76), Steve Moser (player/1977-86), Rod Soesbe (former head coach/1987-96), Eric Nielsen (player/1997-2006) and T.J. White (player/2007-16).
