LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV softball lost to Florida Atlantic in the UNLV classic on Friday evening at Eller Media Stadium. The Rebels drop to 9-9 while the Owls improve to 15-1.
The Owls scored three runs in the fourth inning to secure the victory. Emily Lochten hit a solo home run with one out. Florida Atlantic took advantage of a fielding error for the game-winning run and knocked in its final run on a RBI-single up the middle.
UNLV's lone run came in the second inning that gave it a 1-0 lead. With one out Kwyn Cooper singled to shortstop. After Courtney Beavers was hit by a pitch, Cooper stole third base and ran home on a throwing error by the catcher to score.
The Rebels only managed two other hits in the game. Garie Blando doubled down the left field line to lead off the sixth inning, but UNLV was unable to advance her with three consecutive outs.
Kwyn Cooper pitching 3.1 innings and allowed five hits, two runs (one earned) and no walks. Alyssa Batastini relieved Cooper in the fourth and gave up three hits, one unearned run and two walks with one strikeout.
UNLV takes on Drake in its next game tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.
