March 8, 2016 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV softball's Alyssa Batastini was named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday morning for her performance in the UNLV Classic. Over the weekend the freshman pitched 14.2 innings over four games with one start and three relief appearances, allowing only nine hits, four walks and two unearned runs with four strikeouts for a 2-0 record and 0.00 ERA.
Batastini started on Thursday night against Southern Utah and gave up only one unearned run, three hits and one walk with two strikeouts in six innings to pick up the win. She pitched 3.2 innings of relief against Florida Atlantic and struck out one batter while allowing one unearned run. Against Drake, she picked up her third win of the season, giving up only one hit and one walk in three innings. She had another scoreless relief appearance against Saint Mary's with one strikeout in two innings.
Batastini is the first UNLV MW Pitcher of the Week since Morgan Ettinger won last year on Mar. 3 and the first Rebel freshman to win the award since Amanda Oliveto in 2011.
The Rebels are back in action with their fourth and final home tournament of the season this weekend, the Rebel Classic. UNLV will face DePaul in the opener on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
