2016 UNLV Baseball Weekly Notes: Week 11

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels hit the road one last time for a three-game, Mountain West series against the San Jose State Spartans to close April. More importantly, these contests in the southern portion of the Bay Area represent the conclusion of a month that has seen them play only three times at home as opposed to the 16 contests scheduled on the road and in three different states (Arizona, California and New Mexico).

The Scarlet & Gray has weathered the month well with a pair of eight-game road trips book ending the three played in Las Vegas at Earl E. Wilson Stadium against Air Force from April 15-17. In all, the team sits even at 8-8 during this stretch prior to the trio of affairs at Municipal Stadium, the shared home of SJSU baseball and the San Jose Giants - Class A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

The Rebels enter the weekend fifth in the MW with an 8-10 mark and an overall record of 17-23. They went 1-3 in a four-game stretch in Orange County, Calif., last weekend with their lone win coming in a 2-0 shutout of the Cal State Fullerton Titans. The victory followed losses in the first to games against the Titans, and it preceded a Monday loss at UC Irvine.

The Spartans, on the other hand, have won two straight entering the weekend series. They had lost 10 of 11, including five consecutive, prior to Sunday's 7-5, 12-inning win at Fresno State. They followed it up with a 9-7 triumph over Pacific in Stockton two days later. For the year, they're 13-27 overall and 5-16 in league play, which is seventh.

TUNE IN, WATCH & LISTEN: The UNLV Rebels will have two games of this weekend's series against the San Jose State Spartans streamed live via video through the Mountain West Network and in conjunction with Campus Insiders. Links to Friday's and Saturday's video stream as well as live stats for all three affairs can be found at UNLVRebels.com.

ON DECK: After this weekend's jaunt to the Bay Area, the UNLV Rebels return to Las Vegas to begin an eight-game homestand at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. UNLV kicks this 11-day run off with a Tuesday, May 3 contest against the UC Irvine Anteaters. They'll also play host to New Mexico (May 6-8), Arizona State (May 10) and Fresno State (May 13-15).
