May 12, 2016

2016 UNLV Baseball Weekly Notes: Week 13.1

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels close out their season-best, eight-game homestand this weekend with a visit from the Fresno State Bulldogs. Additionally, these three affairs at Earl E. Wilson Stadium signal the end of the 2016 home schedule.

The action begins Friday night with the first pitch of the Mountain West Conference series scheduled for 6:05 pm. Game two is Saturday at 2:05 pm while the third and final contest is slated for Sunday at 1:05 pm. Prior to Sunday's game, the baseball program will recognize its senior class - Kenny Oakley, Cody Roper, A.J. VanMeetren, Ben Wright and Andrew Yazdanbakhsh - for their time spent as members of the Scarlet & Gray.

RECENT GOINGS-ON: The UNLV Rebels (22-26) enter the week winners of four of their last six games after they claimed victories over the San Jose State Spartans (May 1: 3-2 in 11 innings), UC Irvine Anteaters (May 3: 8-6) and New Mexico Lobos (May 6: 11-6 and 8: 10-4). Their only losses have came to the Lobos on May 7 (6-2) and Arizona State Sun Devils on May 10 (6-4).

The Fresno State Bulldogs (33-17) have won three straight and seven of their last eight outings. Their three-game winning streak includes a victory this past Tuesday over Cal Poly (9-5), and wins over San Diego State in game two (1-0) and three (4-3) over the weekend. The Bulldogs' lone loss in this eight-game run was in the MW opener against SDSU (4-2). Prior to that defeat, FS had rattled off five consecutive wins with three over Air Force and one apiece against Saint Mary's and Sacramento State.

The Rebels and Bulldogs squared off in Fresno, Calif., in mid-March in a series that was not decided until the final inning and the last at-bat. UNLV won game one (4-2), but dropped the second (6-2). The rubber game was also won by FS with walk-off RBI single in the home half of the ninth inning.

TUNE IN, WATCH & LISTEN: The UNLV Rebels will have a live video stream for all three of their games against the Fresno State Bulldogs this weekend via the Mountain West Network and Campus Insiders. Additionally, Sunday's affair will be aired live on ESPN 1100 AM/100.9 FM with the radio call from Dug Dugless (play-by-play) and former Major Leaguer Josh Towers (analyst). Links for the streams and radio broadcast as well as live stats will be made available at UNLVRebels.com.
