2016 Mountain West All-Conference Team Announcement

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV baseball program had four of its own earn Mountain West recognition following the conclusion of its 30-game season. The MW's seven head coaches selected D.J. Myers and Payton Squier to the All-Conference First Team while Kyle Isbel and Ben Wright were members of the Second Team. Additionally, Isbel claimed a share of the Freshman of the Year award with Air Force's Nic Ready.

New Mexico's Carl Stajduhar was named the Tony Gwynn Player of the Year while Air Force's Griffin Jax and Fresno State's Jimmy Lambert were Co-Pitchers of the Year. Mike Batesole, who skippered Fresno State to the regular season title, was tabbed the MW's Coach of the Year.

"I'm happy for the four guys that got acknowledged," said head coach Stan Stolte. "It's a tough process with many deserving players in our league. As good as that is, you still have to prove yourself every day in this game and I know they realize that."

Isbel is only the second Rebel to earn MW's Freshman of the Year honors since Joe Wickman did so in 2002. The Fontana, Calif., native hit .338 with 44 hits with 12 of those going for extra bases, including a league-leading five triples that helped him notch a .485 slugging percentage and the addition of eight walks helped him amass a .390 on-base percentage. The third baseman played all 30 games, scored 20 runs, knocked in 14 RBI and stole five bases.

Myers, a junior right-handed pitcher, started all 10 weekends in league play with a 5-2 record and 3.90 ERA in 60.0 innings of work. The Coronado High School product struck out 43 batters against 19 walks and held the opposition to a .264 batting average.

Squier hit .389 -- the third-best batting average in Conference play -- with 44 hits (six doubles) in 29 games. The sophomore, who hails from Phoenix, scored 19 runs and plated 12 RBI to go along with .442 slugging and .462 on-base percentages.

Wright made 11 relief appearances on the mound, six resulted in saves and three more led to a 2-1 record.. The junior righty from West Jordan, Utah, tossed a total of 24.1 innings and tallied an ERA of 4.07. He limited the MW foes to a .261 average while he struck out 11 against eight walks.

The Scarlet & Gray, who is seeded fourth overall, take to UNM's Santa Ana Star Field Wednesday afternoon (3:00 pm MT/2:00 pm PT) against the fifth-seeded Air Force Falcons, a squad the Rebels swept in a three-game series in Las Vegas in mid-April.
