Zhu And Amilon Named Co-Outstanding Rebels of the Week

May 4, 2016

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's Jakob Amilon and women's tennis Aiwen Zhu have been named the Co-Outstanding Rebels of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition, as voted on by the UNLV communications department.

Zhu led her team to the 2016 MW Championship by winning all three of her singles matches over the weekend and both of her completed doubles matches. She played No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles in the lineup and was dominant while winning every set (only one opponent won more than 2 games against her in a set), including getting the Rebels on the board Sunday en route to a 4-2 upset win over top-seeded Fresno State in Fort Collins.

Amilon led his team to the 2016 MW Championship by winning all three of his singles matches over the weekend and winning two of three doubles matches -- all at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. The Rebels' doubles point was the decisive one in Sunday's 4-3 upset win over Boise State, which spoiled the Broncos' perfect 13-0 mark in the MW championships since joining the conference.
