June 21, 2016 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - All four members of the UNLV baseball program that were selected earlier this month in the 2016 Major League Baseball First Year Draft have signed with their respective clubs and, in turn, been assigned to Minor League Baseball teams in the Arizona and Pioneer Baseball Leagues.
Dean Kremer and D.J. Myers will begin their professional careers in the Arizona League (Phoenix area) with the AZL Dodgers and AZL Giants, respectively. Kremer was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 14th round (431st overall pick) while Myers was picked by the San Francisco Giants in the 15th (455th).
Ben Wright and Kenny Oakley will continue play this summer in the Pioneer Baseball League. Wright was chosen by the Chicago White Sox in the 16th round (476th) and has been assigned to the Great Falls (Montana) Voyagers. Oakley, a 31st round pick (920th) by the Colorado Rockies, will start with the Grand Junction (Colorado) Rockies.
Myers, Kremer and Oakley -- all selected by National League West squads -- comprised the Rebels' weekend starting rotation while Wright served as the team's closer. Combined the foursome struck out 195 batters and threw 294.2 innings in 64 appearances, 43 of which were starts.
