World Cup of Softball XI | WSBC XV Women's World Softball Championships

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Less than two months after concluding a stellar career with the UNLV softball program, Rebel alumna Garie Blando will suit up for the Philippines Blu Girls in a pair of international softball tournaments. Blando will participate at the World Cup of Softball XI and WSBC XV Women's World Softball Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., and Surrey, B.C., Canada.

Blando, a native of Chino Hills, Calif., has played for the Blu Girls since 2014 when she participated in both the World Cup of Softball in Irvine, Calif., and the Incheon Asian Games in South Korea. In 2015, she represented the Philippines at the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore.

The one-time Mountain West Player of the Year (2014) and two-time All-Conference and NFCA All-West Region representative finished her four-year career at UNLV ranked in the top 10 of nine offensive categories. She places as high as fifth in steals (38) and on-base percentage (.439) as well as sixth in runs (147), slugging percentage (.550) and hit by pitch (17).

The World Cup of Softball XI will take place from July 5-10 at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex. The tournament will consist of 13 teams split between the 89'ers Pool (A) -- Australia, China, Netherlands, Philippines, Puerto Rico, USA and Venezuela -- and Sooner Pool (B) -- Canada, Czech Republic, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand and USA Elite.

The Blu Girls will open play in the Sooner State's capital city against the USA Tuesday at 1:00 pm PT. In all, they're scheduled to play six games before one last against their corresponding seed from the Sooner Pool on July 10.

The WSBC XV Women's World Softball Championships begin five days after the conclusion of the action in Oklahoma City. The 10-day tourney (July 15-24) will see 31 teams ranging from Africa, Asia, Europe, Central America, South America, North America and Oceania compete in Surrey.

The Philippines are in Pool F and will play the Czech Republic (July 15), Pakistan (July 16) and Netherlands (July 17) in round-robin action. Following those three contests, the Blu Girls will be placed in either the championship playoffs or placement playoffs.
