LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV was held to just five total shots on Sunday afternoon as it fell at Saint Mary's by a 4-1 score in men's college soccer action from Saint Mary's Stadium.

"It was a very difficult weekend on the road for the UNLV men's soccer team," said head coach Rich Ryerson. "Our youth and inexperience was very evident this weekend, and that resulted in limited scoring offensive opportunities on offense. We will continue to work hard in training and prepare for our next home game on Saturday."

Saint Mary's put the first goal of the game on the board in the 10th minute, off assists from Max Mimer and Kai Howe. The Rebels would tie up the game at 1-1 in the 41st minute. Maliq Cooper started the scoring play when he took the ball deep down the right side, eluded a defender on the baseline and lofted a pass into the box. Connor Ryan leaped up and headed the ball in from six yards out to the back of the net for the score.

The Gaels answered right back just 38 seconds later for the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal. Joseph Restani would send a shot past UNLV goalkeeper Richard Garness, off assists from Stephen Dougherty and Evan Martinez, to give the home team a 2-1 edge.

UNLV was outshot 8-4 in the first half, but found the going even tougher in the second half, as it was credited with just one shot after halftime while the Gaels took 12. Two of those shots resulted in goals for Saint Mary's, in the 60th minute by Jakub Svehlik and in the 84th minute by Alex Pidoux to account for the final 4-1 score.

The Rebels will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 17, when they host Oregon State at 7 pm. That will cap off a day of soccer at Peter Johann Memorial Field, as the annual Alumni game will be played at 3 pm, followed by the charity Guns 'N Hoses Police-Fire Department game at 4 pm.
