LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV played one of its best defensive games of the season on Saturday night, until a pair of defensive breakdowns in the 81st and 82nd minute led to two quick scores and a 2-0 Oregon State victory on Saturday night in men's college soccer action in front of 1,433 fans at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

The game seemed destined for overtime, as UNLV had smothered the Beavers defensively in the second half, allowing just two total shots in the first 35 minutes. However, the Rebels were struggling themselves to finish off the scoring changes they had in the second half, despite several good runs and a couple of blasts on goal by Spencer Jackson that were stopped by Oregon State goalkeeper Nolan Wirth.
Oregon State's first goal of the night came off a score when UNLV cleared a corner kick, but the Beavers collected the ball and sent it back in on the right side which was overloaded by Beavers. Jordan Jones was able to drive it down to the right baseline before sending a pass back to the top of the box where Jaime Miralles sent in a shot that was deflected by a Rebel player and into the goal for the score in the 81st minute.
Exactly 60 seconds later the Beavers went up 2-0. This time Jesse Garcia took on a Rebel defender one-on-one and was able to shake loose and unleashed a shot from outside the box that carried to the top right corner of the goal.
The shot advantage would finish in Oregon State's favor 9-8, while corner kicks were also in OSU's favor at 3-2. Nathan Bohn finished with three saves for UNLV over the 90 minutes.
UNLV is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 20, with a 7 pm contest at Peter Johann Memorial Field. Tickets are just $2 for anyone wearing red, while kids 12 and under are free to UNLV soccer matches.
