Sept. 23, 2016 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV softball will begin preparation for the 2017 season next week with the start of fall practice. The Rebels, who are in the midst of individual workouts, will play four doubleheaders over the next month in addition to hosting its alumnae game on Oct. 8.
The Scarlet & Gray will kick off fall action on Sat., Oct. 1, with two games against Mt. Sac. The first game is set to begin at 12 p.m.
The following weekend, UNLV will welcome back former players for its annual
alumnae game on Sat., Oct. 8. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
Back-to-back weekends will feature doubleheaders, with the Rebels facing BYU and Salt Lake Community College on Oct. 22 and Oct. 29, respectively. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. for both weekends.
The fall slate will also include a doubleheader matchup with College of Southern Nevada. Game date and time has yet to be determined.
The Rebels return 11 letterwinners, including six starters from last spring. In 2017, UNLV will be led by the senior duo of
Kwyn Cooper and
Morgan Ettinger, who combined for 31 starts in the circle with 15 wins in 2016. Cooper, also a utility player in the field, made 16 additional starts at first base, second base and at designated hitter.
Head coach Lisa Dodd is entering her fifth season with the Rebels, while assistant coaches Courtney Martinez and Rebecca Arbino are both entering their second year with the program.
