SPOKANE, Wash. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV kept Gonzaga scoreless for the first 50 minutes of Friday night's contest, but the impact of playing shorthanded following a first half red card eventually wore down the Rebels as they would fall 2-0 at Luger Field. The Zags improved to 6-2-1 while UNLV dropped to 2-7.

The Rebels held the advantage on ball possession for the first half of the opening period, but that advantage vanished in the 38th minute when Connor Ryan was called for a red card after his sliding attempt to kick the ball also connected with a Bulldog player's foot. That left UNLV playing down a man for the rest of the night.

The Rebels were able to keep the game scoreless though the rest of the half, but eventually wore down over the second 45 minutes. Gonzaga would score the first goal of the contest in the 53rd minute with Colton Cavey took a pass, dribbled a few steps across the top of the box before sending a hard shot to the left post.

The second and final goal of the night came in the 70th minute following a free kick by Brayden Sullivan that was headed in by Jalen Crisler for a 2-0 advantage. UNLV would have its chances in the second half, taking a total of seven shots while forcing the Zags to make a pair of saves.

Gonzaga finished with a 15-11 edge on shots, and 10-3 on shots on goal. Rebel goalkeeper Enrique Adame posted eight saves in goal in his first career appearance, while Bulldogs keeper Ben Willis made three stops for the shutout. Danny Musovski led the Rebels with five shots, while Maliq Cooper took two.

"We're looking forward to getting started with out conference play next Friday," said UNLV head coach Rich Ryerson. "Our non-conference schedule was very difficult, and considering that half our team this year are newcomers, we've had an opportunity to try players in different roles and compete at a high level of Division 1 soccer, due to the strength of schedule we had. We're confident we'll have a strong showing in our conference, and I believe the future looks very positive."

UNLV is back in action on Friday, Sept. 30, when it hosts CSU Bakersfield at 7 pm at Peter Johann Memorial Field. The first 150 fans will receive a free UNLV Soccer Scarf, while the UNLV Tailgate party with free food and drinks begins at 5 pm that day.
