MALIBU, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's tennis team picked up a big neutral-site victory Sunday over SEC member Arkansas to win the consolation side of the ITA Kickoff Weekend event hosted by Pepperdine.

Playing at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center, the Rebels, seeded fourth at the regional, improved to 3-1 on the young season while the Razorbacks, who were seeded second, dropped to 3-2.

UNLV got an early boost by earning the doubles point to start the morning. Paola Artiga and Anna Bogoslavets downed Natsuho Arakawa and Agne Cepelyte, 6-4, on court three and Aiwen Zhu and En-Pei Huang clinched it with a 6-3 victory over Leolia Jeanjean and Shannon Hudson at the top of the lineup.

Moving to singles, won the first set on only two of six courts. However, Bogoslavets quickly finished off Jeanjean, 6-0, 6-4 at the third spot to make it 2-0 before the Razorbacks got on the board with a straight-set victory at No. 5. All four remaining matches split sets and Rebels did not lose any of them. Artiga rallied past Mia Jurasic, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, on court four and then Huang ended things when she closed out Sasha Skorupeieva, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, at the bottom of the lineup. For the second consecutive day, Zhu just missed out on a ranked upset as she was serving for the match vs. No. 98 Shannon Hudson at the second position before action was halted.

The ninth annual ITA Kickoff Weekend was taking place at 23 different Division I tennis facilities across the country. In all, there were 60 teams competing per gender. The winners of the single-elimination event advance to next month's ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championships.

UNLV will next host Idaho on Feb. 10 starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission to all matches at the Fertitta Tennis Complex is free of charge.
