LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - After two straight games on the road, the UNLV men's basketball team will be back at home for two games this week. The Runnin' Rebels will host New Mexico on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m., then face Colorado State on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 3 p.m. Both games at the Thomas & Mack Center will be televised by CBS Sports Network.
Wednesday's contest will mark the second meeting between UNLV and New Mexico this season. UNLV won the first matchup, 71-66, at The Pit on Jan. 10. Junior guard Jovan Mooring led the Runnin' Rebels in that game with 19 points, while senior guard Uche Ofoegbu added 14 points and eight rebounds.
UNLV, which is 8-5 in home games this year, is led in scoring by sophomore guard Jalen Poyser (12.5 ppg), Mooring (11.1 ppg), senior forward Tyrell Green (11.0 ppg) and senior forward Christian Jones (10.9 ppg). Jones (6.7 rpg), sophomore guard Kris Clyburn (5.9 rpg) and Green (5.2 rpg) are the team's leading rebounders, while Mooring (3.6 apg) and Poyser (3.2 apg) lead in assists. Mooring is third in the Mountain West in assists and second in conference-only games (4.6 apg). Junior forward Dwayne Morgan was leading the team in rebounding (7.3 rpg), but has missed the last 13 games because of injury. It was announced on Jan. 19 that he will miss the rest of the season.
New Mexico is coming off an 82-65 loss at Nevada, Reno on Saturday, which snapped a four-game win streak for the Lobos. UNM is 3-5 in true road games this year. Junior guard Elijah Brown leads the team in scoring (18.5 ppg) and assists (3.0 apg) and is second in rebounding (4.9 rpg). Senior forward Tim Williams (17.9 ppg, 7.0 rpg), who is second on the team in scoring and the team's leading rebounder, is out indefinitely with a foot injury, according to recent reports.
TV announcers for Wednesday's game are Brent Stover, Bob Wenzel and Jenny Dell (sideline). Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM and online (link at UNLVRebels.com).
