Oct. 19, 2017 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's golf senior Shintaro Ban has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.
Ban, a San Jose, California, native, earned his second career medalist honor at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate last week. The senior shot a final-round-low 7-under-par 63, which tied for the tournament's low round, en route to a three-round score of 10-under 200 and a tie for first place. His final round consisted of an eagle, six birdies and just one bogey, launching him up the leaderboard for a share of the individual title.
Ban and the Rebels are back in action this weekend, competing at the United State Collegiate Oct. 20-22 at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta.
