Oct. 8, 2017 BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA (Las Vegas) - @UNLVRebelSoccer | UNLV Box Score
UNLV saw its three-game win streak snapped Sunday afternoon in a 1-0 loss on the road at WAC rival CSU Bakersfield. It was the first conference loss of the season for the Rebels, dropping them to 5-7 overall, 2-1 in league play. The Roadrunners improved to 5-6, and 3-1 in the WAC after their third straight home victory.
THE TURNING POINT: The Roadrunners' Sebastian Mentel dribbled past two Rebel defenders on the left side, before slotting a pass right in front of the goal. Ricardo Soza was there to finish the play and tap the ball in past Rebel goalkeeper Enrique Adame in the 50th minute for the lone goal of the game.
STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV finished the game with a 16-9 edge on shots, but CSU Bakersfield goalkeeper Detre Dbell was strong in goal, stopping several close Rebel shots on the way to a six-save, shutout performance.
QUOTABLE:
"Personally I felt we were a little flat, we didn't start with the energy I hoped we would. We started to get in flow midway through the first half. Statistically we were ahead of them, but we couldn't get the opportunities we needed. They got ahead of us on a ball and took advantage of the chance, so you have to give them credit for that."
- UNLV Head Coach Rich Ryerson
