RENO (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV (5-7/4-4) football team lost to rival Nevada, Reno here in the northern part of the state for the first time since 2011, 23-16 at Mackay Stadium, to end its season Saturday afternoon.

The Rebels led for much of the day, including 13-7 at halftime, before the Wolf Pack (3-9/3-5) rallied to tie it at 16 at the end of third quarter and take the lead with 7:34 left in the game.

UNLV saw its three-game conference winning streak snapped but did finish with more victories than the previous season for a third straight year for the first time in school history.

Freshman quarterback Armani Rogers scored from 12 yards out in the second quarter for UNLV's only touchdown of the day while Junior Evan Pantels kicked three field goals, including a career-long 53-yarder in the third quarter that proved to be the visitors' only points after the break.

THE TURNING POINT:

Leading 16-9 and looking to take a commanding two-touchdown lead in the third quarter, UNLV went for it on fourth-and-one at the UNR nine-yard line. Lexington Thomas was stopped for no gain and the revitalized Wolf Pack marched 91 yards the other way for the tying touchdown.

PLAY OF THE GAME:

The Wolf Pack was driving in the second quarter and picked up a first down to the UNLV 7 when LB Brian Keyes knocked the ball out from the UNR receiver. DL Jameer Outsey picked it up and raced 53 yards to set up a Rebel field goal.

STAT OF THE GAME:

UNLV, which had only failed to score after the reaching the red zone five times all season â€" finished 3-5 after entering the 20 vs. the Pack. It marked the only game in 2017 that the Rebels had more than one failed trip into the red zone.

REBEL NOTES:

-QB Armani Rogers' rushing touchdown in the second quarter was his eighth of the season

-Rogers, who netted 49 yards on the ground vs. the Pack, set the UNLV record for rushing yards by a freshman in a season with 780, besting the 763 yards by RB Charles Williams just last year

-RB Lexington Thomas, who had 63 yards on 15 carries vs. UNR, finished in fourth place on UNLV's single-season rushing list with 1,336 yards

-Senior DL Mike Hughes Jr. blocked the extra-point attempt after UNR's opening score, which marked the first blocked kick of the year for the Rebels

-Evan Pantels blasted a 53-yard field goal to give his team a seven-point lead early in the third quarter. It tied for the fourth-longest field goal in UNLV history

-Senior Devonte Boyd ended his Rebel career with two catches for 33 yards, which put his final Rebel totals at 198 receptions (third in UNLV history) and 3,243 yards (second in UNLV history)

-Senior LB Brian Keyes saved his best game for last, turning in a game-high 13 tackles to go with his forced fumble and pass breakup
