Ettinger Tabbed Conference Pitcher of the Week

Feb. 21, 2017
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Softball senior Morgan Ettinger has been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday morning. Ettinger earned four wins in two starts and two relief appearances, helping the Rebels go unbeaten at the DeMarini Desert Classic this past weekend in Las Vegas.

The right-hander from Chino Hills, Calif., pitched 19.0 innings over the four games, including two complete games in each of her starts, giving up just three earned runs with 17 strikeouts. In the tournament opener on Thursday, she pitched 4.0 inning in relief as the Rebels held off Northern Iowa 8-7, then pitched another inning in relief in UNLV's first game Friday against Weber State, another one-run victory. Her first complete-game performance came against UTEP as she gave up eight hits and one earned run while striking out six in an 8-4 win. The senior wrapped up the weekend with her finest performance, a complete-game shutout against Idaho State, giving up just four hits in 7.0 innings with five strikeouts in the 1-0 win over the Bengals. Her 1.11 ERA over the weekend brought her season ERA to 1.14, leading all UNLV pitchers, while her six wins is already two shy of her season total in 2016.

This is Ettinger's third-career Mountain West Pitcher of the Week honor. She earned the award as a freshman in 2014 and as a sophomore in 2015.

At 7-2 on the season, the Rebels are off to their best start under head coach Lisa Dodd. After two-straight home tournaments to open the year, UNLV will head out on the road for the next two weekends, first going to Honolulu for the Bank of Hawai'i Invitational Feb. 24-26.
