Raim Named Outstanding Rebel of the Week

Feb. 22, 2017
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Women's Golf junior Mackenzie Raim has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

Raim, a native of Palm Desert, Calif., turned in a stellar three-day performance to win her first collegiate tournament as the Rebels opened up their spring slate at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif., Feb. 12-14. The junior shot her best two rounds of her junior campaign, carding a 68 in the second round and a 69 in the final round to finish the 54-hole tournament at 4-under 209 to tie for first place. It was all about the finish for Raim, who sunk five-straight birdies over the last five holes of round two to move within striking distance heading into the last round, then hit birdies on two of her last four holes to reach the top of the leadeboard for the first time in her college career. She led all 88 individual competitors in par-4 scoring average (3.88) and tied for fourth with 12 birdies over 54 holes. Raim's performance also helped the team to a sixth place finish among a field that featured 12 ranked teams out of 15, including four in Golfstat's Top-10.

Raim and the Rebels will be heading to Texas for the third time in the 2016-17 season as they will compete at The Dickson tournament hosted by the University of Houston Feb. 27-28.
