Feb. 27, 2017 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Baseball's Alan Strong was named the Mountain West's Pitcher of the Week for games played through February 26. The Conference also recognized New Mexico's Luis Gonzalez as its Player of Week.
Strong, a junior transfer from Grossmont College, pitched 5.1 scoreless innings and struck out six in the Rebels' 6-1 upset of No. 7 Cal State Fullerton Friday night. The righty fanned one batter in his first five innings of work, including two in the fourth. He allowed four hits and issued four walks; however, no runner advanced past second base during his stint on the mound.
The Rebels (3-4) close out their nine-game homestand at Earl E. Wilson Stadium against the UC Riverside Highlanders (4-2) Tuesday (6:05 pm) and Wednesday (2:05 pm).
Tuesday's affair vs. UCR has been billed as "$2 Tuesday," as tickets and hot dogs are both $2 and beer will be discounted $2.
