Yang Named Outstanding Rebel of the Week

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Women's Tennis senior Carol Yang has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday. This marks the second time during the 2016-17 academic year Yang has earned honor, the other coming on January 18.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

Yang, ranked 37th, defeated the 10th-ranked singles player in the country, Oklahoma State's Viktoriya Lushkova, 0-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Sunday, March 12. This was the second top-15 upset in 2017 for the senior from Shenzhen, China, as she knocked off then-14th-ranked Meible Chi of Duke during a tournament in January.

The Rebels swept Washington State 4-0 in a dual match on Wednesday morning and will face another Pac-12 foe as they travel to Tempe to face Arizona State next Wednesday, March 22, at 11 a.m. PT.
