April 12, 2017 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV baseball program has added Northern Nevadan Casey Miller to the signing class that will don the Scarlet & Gray beginning with the 2018 campaign. In the fall, the Rebels signed Cade Adams, Bryce Bullock, Zack Gillissie, Trevor Horn, Dillon Johnson, Donavon McCrystal, Jacob Rogers, Jack-Thomas Wold and Connor Woods.
"Casey is a late developer, and we are excited that he chose UNLV as the place to develop," said head coach Stan Stolte. "He has a chance to make a significant impact with the potential he has.
Miller, a 6'4" right-handed pitcher from Sparks, will graduate from Spanish Springs High School this spring. He has helped the Cougar baseball team to an 11-4 record, thus far, this season with help of a 1.05 ERA and 12 strikeouts. Last year, the squad went 15-11, and he participated in the Junior Baseball Showcase and earned the Reno Gazette-Journal's Athlete of the Week once.
"I was so excited to hear that I had a chance to play baseball at UNLV," noted Miller. "The coaches in this area had a lot of great things to say about Coach Stolte. When I got the opportunity to visit, I was amazed by the baseball facilities. The coaches and players I met were really friendly, and I think it is a great fit for me."
Miller has also suited up for the Nevada Dustdevils and Muckdogs Baseball Club outside of high school competition.
"Casey is the epitome of a good, character guy, and he's one of the best kids that has come through our program," stated Spanish Springs head coach Matt Ortiz, who played collegiately for Stolte at Nevada, Reno in the late 1990s. "He mixes effort and leadership with a strong performance. Casey has gotten better every year that he has been in our program. He hasn't even grown into his body yet. The ceiling on him is well above where he's at. UNLV has got a good one."
In addition to playing baseball, he lettered once with the men's tennis team (2015).
