Rebels Host Wolverines On A $2 Tuesday

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV baseball team, which is in the midst of playing 13 of 17 games on the road, returns to Las Vegas and Earl E. Wilson Stadium for a Tuesday night affair with the Utah Valley Wolverines. First pitch for the midweek tilt is set for 6:05 pm.

Tuesday's contest marks the fourth and final contest that will be played at home during this lengthy, road stretch. The Rebels close out it out with four straight on the road beginning with a trip to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to face Air Force three times this weekend (April 7-9) and return visit to Phoenix to play Arizona State (April 11), once more.

ON DECK: The UNLV baseball team hit the road for a return engagement with the Air Force Falcons this weekend. The Rebels and Falcons will play three times in Mountain West action with game one scheduled for 2:00 pm PT (3:00 pm MT). Games two and three are slated for noon PT (1:00 pm MT) Saturday and Sunday.

LIGHT AT THE END OF THE ROAD: The upcoming four-game, road stretch at Air Force and Arizona State marks the final portion of a lengthy period that the UNLV baseball team will play a chunk of its schedule away from Las Vegas. In all, the Rebels will have played 13 of 17 contests from March 17 to April 11 on the road.

The Scarlet & Gray has already spent time in San Diego (three games); Lubbock, Texas (three); Phoenix (one) and Iowa City, Iowa (three), with only a three-game, Mountain West series against New Mexico at home mixed in.

Following the conclusion of the upcoming swing through the Centennial and Grand Canyon States, UNLV will play 12 of its final 21 regular-season games at home, and it begins with four straight against San Diego State (April 13-15) and Arizona State (April 18).

GET YOUR TICKETS: Fans can purchase tickets for $5 online and in advance at UNLVTickets.com. Tickets purchased at the Wilson Stadium box office are $8 for adults, $6 for senior/faculty/staff, while kids 12 and under as well as UNLV students are free.

HOT HITTIN' REBELS: The UNLV Rebels have opened the 2017 season with a .382 batting average - 48th in the nation - through seven weeks and 30 games of play. UNLV has scattered 319 hits - 10th nationally, 77 of which have gone for extra bases (53 doubles, 16 home runs and eight triples), in a total of 1,077 at-bats.

Those extra-base hits have helped the team amass a .405 slugging percentage, and with the addition of 106 walks and 24 hit batters, the team has a .369 on-base percentage.

In all, the Rebels have six players hitting .298 or better with a minimum of 36 hits. Ernie De La Trinidad not only leads the squad in batting average (.382), but also in hits (42). Justin Jones (37 hits) is second in average at .343 while Payton Squier (39) and Nick Ames (37) are next with identical .325 averages. Bryson Stott (40) is fifth with a .315 effort while Kyle Isbel (36) is sixth at .298.

Three players have scattered 10 or more extra-base hits with Isbel leading the squad with 12 (nine doubles, two triples and one home run) while Ames has 11 (six doubles and five home runs) and Jones has 10 (six doubles and four home runs).

Nine more extra-base hits have come from De La Trinidad (four doubles, three home runs and two triples) and Nick Rodriguez, who is hitting .253 with 23 hits (six doubles, two triples and one home run).

Delving deeper, all five players that have nine or more extra-base hits also have .396 or higher slugging percentages. De La Trinidad leads all with a .536 clip while Jones and Ames are both deadlocked at .509. Isbel sits fourth at .430 while Rodriguez is fifth at .396.
