Six Head Coach Contract Extensions Announced

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Director of Athletics Desiree Reed-Francois announced today contract extensions for six head coaches (women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis, and track & field/cross country).

"We are pleased that we were able to complete a negotiation process that began in the spring," Reed-Francois said. "Our coaches provide the foundation for our student-athletes to excel academically, to relentlessly compete for championships and to serve as a point of pride and unity for our global UNLV community."

Women's basketball head coach Kathy Olivier's contract is a four-year term that runs through the 2020-21 season, men's soccer head coach Rich Ryerson's and women's soccer head coach Chris Shaw's are both through the end of the 2019 calendar year, while the other three are two-year deals through the 2018-19 academic year.

  • Women's Basketball Head Coach Kathy Olivier -- Entering her 10th season as head coach of the Lady Rebels, last year led the team to 22 wins and an at-large postseason bid. The team set a program record with 12 Mountain West victories and ranked 15th in the country in scoring defense.

  • Men's Soccer Head Coach Rich Ryerson -- Entering his eighth season as head coach at UNLV, won the Western Athletic Conference Tournament Championship last season (second time in last three years) and advanced to the NCAA Tournament's second round for the first time since 1985.

  • Women's Soccer Head Coach Chris Shaw -- Entering his fourth season as head coach at UNLV, led his team last year to both the Mountain West regular-season and tournament championships (first time in program history in same season) and its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2006. Shaw earned the league's coach of the year award last season.

  • Men's Tennis Head Coach Owen Hambrook -- Entering his 15th season as head coach at UNLV, led his team to 19 wins last year and a runner-up finish in the Mountain West just one year after taking the conference title.

  • Women's Tennis Head Coach Kevin Cory -- Entering his 19th season as head coach at UNLV, is the winningest coach in school and Mountain West women's tennis history. He led his team to a piece of the league's regular-season title last spring, which marked the ninth combined championship during his tenure.

  • Track & Field/Cross Country Head Coach Yvonne Wade -- Entering her 11th season as head coach at UNLV, led last year's team to a top-25 national ranking, while coaching individuals to two of the best performances in the NCAA (high jump, 100m). The squad finished second at the MW Indoor Championships, earning Wade the league's coach of the year award.
