LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's basketball junior Katie Powell has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

Powell, a junior from Atlanta, Georgia, posted back-to-back double-doubles while leading UNLV to a 2-0 record for the week - a 79-60 win at home over San Jose State and a 63-54 road victory at Utah State.

Against the Spartans, Powell notched a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds in just 27 minutes of action. She also set a career-high with four assists in the win.

In the Lady Rebels' road victory at Utah State, the forward keyed a rally from a 10-point deficit thanks to a career-high 25 points. That performance included shooting 12-of-13 at the free throw line, where she made her first 11 straight, while her 12 made free throws is tied for the ninth most in a game by a Lady Rebel. She added a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with her 25 points, which included eight boards and nine points in the final quarter to help UNLV pull away from the Aggies.

For the week, she averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 13-of-14 at the free throw line (92.9%), and added four assists and two blocks.

The Lady Rebels continue Mountain West play Wednesday night at home at Cox Pavilion at 6 p.m. against Air Force.
