Jan. 5, 2018 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - For the first time in at least 15 years, UNLV Athletics has earned a collective semester grade point average of 3.0. The announcement was made after Fall 2017 grades were made official by campus.
The athletics departments' academic records are available only back to the 2002-03 school year, and its Fall 2017 semester GPA of 3.01 is the highest during that span. UNLV Athletics' cumulative GPA is also 3.01 and ties the department record.
"The academic performance by our student-athletes this semester is a reflection of their hard work and dedication in the classroom, as well as our department's continuous commitment to academic success," UNLV Director of Athletics Desiree Reed-Francois said. "It takes a team effort to achieve our highest collective GPA in more than a decade and we appreciate all those behind the scenes in our student-athlete academic services area led by Ann McDonough, Becky Pugh and David Wedley, in addition to all of our coaches and other support staff."
UNLV had 121 student-athletes (25 percent) named to the Dean's Honor List, which is also the most in at least 15 years. To be on the Dean's Honor List, students must have achieved a semester GPA greater than 3.50 in at least 12 academic credits.
Additionally, 59 percent of all UNLV student-athletes earned at least a 3.0 semester GPA, which is the highest percentage since records are available.
