Women's soccer junior Georgia Kingman earns honor after scoring a pair of key goals last weekend
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -Â UNLV women's soccer junior Georgia Kingman has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Wednesday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.
Kingman, from Mountain View, California, helped the Rebels go 1-0-1 on the last home weekend of 2018 after scoring a pair of key goals.
With the Rebels trailing New Mexico 3-1 in the second half Friday night, Kingman scored in the 62nd minute to cut the lead to one and then scored a second time with under 10 minutes remaining to send the game to overtime. The match ended in a 3-3 double overtime draw, but the comeback sparked by Kingman helped the Rebels pick up an important point in the Mountain West standings. On Sunday against the Aztecs, Kingman shut down a talented SDSU midfield, leading to a 2-0 victory for UNLV and a second straight win over San Diego State. It marked the first time UNLV had beaten SDSU in back-to-back years since 2007 and 2008.
Kingman and the Rebels will head out on the road for their final three regular season games, beginning Friday, Oct. 19 at Colorado State. UNLV currently has hold of the sixth and final spot for the Mountain West Tournament, but will need to continue to pick up points in the final three matches to secure its entry into the postseason.
