Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Partida With Back-To-Back Game-Winners

Rebels post two straight shutouts to move to fourth in the WAC.

HOUSTON (UNLVRebels.com) - Sophomore midfielder Jesus Partida scored his second straight game-winner while UNLV recorded back-to-back road shutouts for the first time since 2003 with a 1-0 victory at Houston Baptist in WAC men's soccer action Sunday afternoon. The game was played at Clay Stadium after the Huskies' home field was deemed unplayable after heavy thunderstorms on Friday night.

With their third straight win, the Rebels moved into a tie for fourth place in the conference at 4-3-1 (9-7-1 overall), while HBU dropped to 4-6-3, 2-4-1 in league play. This marked the final road game of the regular season for the Rebels, who will now have a three-game homestand starting Friday night.

THE TURNING POINT: UNLV took its chances on the Huskie goal early and often in the first half with 11 shots. The Rebels finally got past the HBU goalkeeper in the final minute of the first half, as Partida sent in a shot from 18 yards out to the right post. The goal allowed the Rebels to sit back on defense were able to sit back on the second half on defense, and allowed 10 shots from the hosts but kept them off the scoreboard.

REBEL OF THE GAME: After notching his first carer shutout Friday night, goalkeeper Nate Bohn followed that with a second straight clean sheet, which featured six saves by the senior.

QUOTABLE: "Absolute fantastic weekend for us, earning a well deserved six points on the road. It's very difficult in the WAC with all the travel, to go to Kansas City and win and then go to Houston and win. I'm very proud of the guys. Jesus Partida scoring back-to-back game-winners, couldn't be happier for him. We now look forward to being home and reuniting with our Las Vegas family for the next three matches."
- Head coach Rich Ryerson

REBEL NOTES:
* Combined with Friday's 1-0 win at UMKC, the Rebels have posted back-to-back road shutouts for the first time since October of 2003, when UNLV posted a 1-0 win at Denver (Oct. 30) and a 2-0 win at Air Force (Nov. 2).
* UNLV now has six total shutouts this season, the most for the Rebels since the 2014 squad posted 10 during their conference championship season.
* Credited with assists on the Partida goal were Ivan Lopez and John Lynam. It was the first career assist for Lopez, and second for Lynam.
* UNLV is just one win away from recording at least 10 wins in a season for a fifth straight season, which would tie a school record. The Rebels came into the year as just one of 18 teams in the nation that had reached 10 wins the previous four seasons.

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV hosts top-25 Air Force Friday night at 7 pm at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
