Rebels Host No. 8 Falcons, Wolverines To Begin Homestand

UNLV closes out the regular season with three straight at home.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Riding a three-game win streak, the UNLV men's soccer team look to keep the momentum going when it begin a three-game homestand this weekend against two of the top three teams in the league, as top-10 Air Force and Utah Valley both make the trip to Peter Johann Memorial Field for a pair of key WAC games. UNLV will face off against the Falcons Friday night at 7 pm, and then follow that with a Sunday contest with the Wolverines at 1 pm.

Prior to both games and free to all with ticketed admission is the Rebel Mafia Tailgate, sponsored by the UNLV Soccer Foundation, with free food, free drinks and live music. Gates open for the tailgate party at 5 pm. Tickets for both games are $8 each, $6 for seniors and staff, and $5 if bought online at UNLVTickets.com up to three hours before the game. Kids 12 and under are free at UNLV soccer contests, as are all high school, middle school and elementary students with a Nevada area school ID.

Also for Friday, all UNLV Faculty & Staff can receive up to four free tickets to the Air Force contest, courtesy of the UNLV Athletic Department. For those interested, they can contact rebelathletics@unlvtickets.com or 702-895-2958.

The Falcons are ranked eighth in the nation in three of the four major polls, as they bring an impressive 14-2 record into Friday's battle, and are the highest ranked team to play at Johann Memorial Field since the Rebels hosted No. 4 UC Irvine on Sept. 26, 2014. They boast one of the top offenses in the nation, averaging 2.69 goals per game, and they have scored at least two goals in  13 of their past 14 games. Air Force won the last meeting between the two 3-0 in Colorado Springs a year ago, while the last game in Las Vegas saw the Rebels post a 3-2 victory.

Utah Valley meanwhile used a six-game win streak to climb within a game of the Falcons in the league standings at 6-2, though the Wolverines fell in their last game 1-0 at home to San Jose State. UVU broke out of a scoring slump in September when it was shutout in four straight games by scoring 13 goals over its past seven.

The Rebels were fighting for their tournament berth a week ago, as only the top seven teams in the WAC advance to next month's postseason tournament, but back-to-back road shutouts lifted the Rebels up to fourth in the standings with just three games left to play. UNLV now closes out their regular season schedule at home where it is 3-1-1 this year.

Both games will be streamed live and carried by the WAC Digital Network which will be available on UNLVRebels.com as well as through the Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV and Android streaming devices.
