Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Runnin' Rebels Roll To 74-61 Win Over Oakland

Senior forward Shakur Juiston records first double-double of the year with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV senior forward Shakur Juiston recorded his first double-double of the season with a team-high 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds as the UNLV men's basketball team (2-1) rolled to a 74-61 win over Oakland on Friday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Three other Runnin' Rebels scored in double figures: sophomore guard Amauri Hardy and sophomore forward Mbacke Diong each had 12 points, while senior guard Kris Clyburn added 10.

Oakland (0-3) was led by Xavier Hill-Mais' game-high 29 points on 11 of 15 from the field. He also had a team-high-tying six rebounds.

THE TURNING POINT: Trailing 5-0 early on, UNLV used a 24-2 run over an 11-minute span to take a 24-7 lead with 7:27 to go in the first half. The Runnin' Rebels led 42-28 at halftime.

RUNNIN' REBEL OF THE GAME: Juiston was 8 of 13 from the field in notching his 16th double-double of his Runnin' Rebel career.

STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV shot 52.5 percent from the field for the game (31 of 59). It was the first time this season the Runnin' Rebels shot over 50 percent.

QUOTABLE: "I was very proud of our effort defensively. We still had a lot of breakdowns and we are going to need to have fewer on the defensive side in order for us to be an elite team. Offensively, I thought we went for home runs more than we should have, especially in the second half. Very happy with the result but not totally satisfied. It was a positive step in the right direction and we will continue to grow." UNLV Head Coach Marvin Menzies
