Javin White Grabs Mountain West Honor

UNLV junior linebacker/safety Javin White has been named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

White finished with eight total tackles and brought in two key interceptions to help UNLV rally to stun in-state rival UNR Saturday night, 34-29. The Rebels set a school record for largest comeback after falling behind 23-0 in the second quarter.

White thwarted both of the Wolf Pack's final two drives in the fourth quarter. With UNR looking to add to its one-point lead, White picked off Ty Gangi at the Rebel 15-yard line with just over six minutes remaining. UNLV then drove for the go-ahead touchdown. The Pack was on the move again when White jumped up to intercept another Gangi pass, this time at the UNLV 33-yard line, to end the threat.

White, who also forced four fumbles this fall, ended the regular season tied for the Mountain West lead with four interceptions.

This marked the second conference weekly award by a Rebel this season, joining cornerback Jericho Flowers earlier this month.
