Isbel Named Outstanding Rebel Of The Week

March 21, 2018
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball junior Kyle Isbel has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

Isbel, from Fontana, California, led the No. 19 Rebels to a 3-1 record last week with a win over Utah and a pair of wins over conference foe Air Force. He was UNLV's top performer at the plate as he hit a team-best .579 with 11 hits and a .636 on-base percentage. The junior had a least one hit in all four games, including three multi-hit games, and recorded three extra-base hits, eight RBI, seven runs scored and an .895 slugging percentage.

Against Utah, Isbel knocked in an insurance run on a seventh-inning triple to cap off UNLV's 3-1 win over the Pac-12 squad. He followed that with a monster weekend in Colorado Springs, where he went 10-for-16 with seven RBI and seven runs scored to go along with an .875 slugging percentage & a .667 on-base percentage. In games one and three of the series, the outfielder registered four hits in each game while driving in four runs in game one and three runs in game three. He also scored three runs in both games two and three.

The Scarlet and Gray improved its record to 19-3 Tuesday with a 10-3 win at Arizona State. The Rebels will return home this weekend for a big three-game league series against second-place San Diego State. First pitch is set for Friday, March 23 at 6:05 p.m. at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
