Box Score March 24, 2018 Box Score
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 19 UNLV baseball team (20-4, 6-2 MW) fell behind early and was unable to keep the No. 25 San Diego State Aztecs (15-7, 5-2 MW) off the scoreboard in Saturday's 17-8 loss in blustery conditions. The Aztecs, who scored in all but one inning, held a six-run lead before the Rebels were able to muster any offense in the second game of the Mountain West series at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
The Scarlet & Gray began to chip away at its deficit in the bottom of the second with help from a pair of walks, a wild pitch and an RBI ground out by Jack Wold, who scored a run two innings later after he and Bryson Stott hit a pair of doubles.
After being held scoreless in the fourth, SDSU answered back with a total of 10 runs between the fifth through ninth innings, while UNLV countered with six.
UNLV's Trevor Horn (2-1) was saddled with his first loss of the season after he allowed seven runs (five earned) off of six hits and four walks.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Dillon Johnson went 3-for-5 at the plate with three singles, three RBI and one run scored. His first hit came in the third inning, while the second and third came in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively, and provided all three RBI.
QUOTABLE: "We, obviously, didn't play well enough to win," said head coach Stan Stolte. "SDSU kicked our butts with two outs, we couldn't make plays or pitches to get off the field in extremely difficult conditions. They did a great job answering every time we started to crawl back into it. It's a big game for both of us tomorrow."
STAT OF THE GAME: SDSU's 17 runs are the most the Rebels have allowed this season.
