CEDAR CITY, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) -Â UNLV women's soccer was dealt a tough hand in its first road contest of 2018 at Southern Utah as stormy weather delayed kickoff by two and half hours Thursday afternoon. The Thunderbirds took advantage of the long layoff, jumping on top of UNLV (2-1) with two goals in the first 10 minutes of the game to take a lead they would never relinquish.
It's the Rebels' first loss of the year, while the defeat is the fifth straight on the road dating back to the end of the 2017 season. The Scarlet and Gray will look to rebound Saturday night in Orem, Utah, where they will face Utah Valley at 6 p.m. PT
THE TURNING POINT:Â SUU went on the attack right away, scoring a goal after a scrum inside the 18-yard box in the seventh minute. Less than two minutes later, the Thunderbirds netted their second in the ninth minute and UNLV couldn't find any offensive magic after that.Â
STAT OF THE GAME:Â The Rebels had their chances as they drew 10 corner kicks to just three for Southern Utah, but they couldn't convert.
QUOTABLE: Head coach Chris Shaw:
"No excuses, we just weren't good enough tonight. We gave up the two early goals and just never recovered. Credit to SUU for battling and making things tough for us."
