RIVERSIDE, CaliforniaĀ (UNLVRebels.com) -Ā UNLV women's soccer saw its win streak end at four games with a 1-0 loss at UC Riverside Sunday in the Rebels' non-conference finale. The Rebels' high-powered offense couldn't crack the Highlanders' defense, who entered the game having given up just one goal in eight games this year, and was shut out for just the second time this season.
UNLV finishes the non-league portion of its schedule at 6-2-1, while UCR remains unbeaten at 8-0-1.
THE TURNING POINT:Ā The Rebels entered the game having shut out each of its last three opponents and the Highlanders had seven shutouts in eight games, so it was safe to assume one goal may make the difference in the defensive battle. UCR struck first with what proved to be the game-winner in the 12th minute and UNLV couldn't find the back of the net.
STAT OF THE GAME:Ā UNLV's offense, which was ranked in the top-15 in the country heading into the weekend, was held to a season-low six shots in the game.
QUOTABLE:Ā Head coach
Chris Shaw:Ā
"The hard turf field is always difficult to adjust to, but the team battled in tough conditions. I felt like we were much better in the second half, but unfortunately, we could not dig ourselves out of the hole we dug in the first half."
UP NEXT:Ā The Rebels will open Mountain West play on the road Friday, September 21 at Utah State, then return home next Sunday, September 23 to host Boise State in their league home opener. Friday's kickoff is set for 3 p.m. PT, while Sunday's match will get underway at 1 p.m. at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
