COLORADO SPRINGS (UNLVRebels.com) -Ā UNLV women's soccer lost its second straight Mountain West match Friday afternoon after falling to Colorado College 2-1 in Colorado Springs. The Rebels took an early 1-0 lead on a penalty kick in the 19th minute but saw that lead evaporate late in the second half as the Tigers scored twice after the 60th minute to beat UNLV for the first time since 2015.
The two-game skid is UNLV's longest of the season, with the Rebels dropping to 7-4-1 overall and 1-2 in league play. Colorado College improved to 6-3 and 2-1.
THE TURNING POINT:Ā The Rebels struck first in the 19th minute after drawing a foul on the Tigers in the box, giving
Michaela Morris the chance to bury the penalty kick to put UNLV up 1-0. The Scarlet and Gray seemed to be controlling the second half until about 17 minutes in, when Colorado College drew its own foul in the box and nailed the ensuing penalty kick to knot the game up at one. The score seemed to shift momentum over to the home team and 12 minutes later, the Tigers scored the game-winner after heading in a corner kick.
STAT OF THE GAME:Ā The Rebels were out-shot for the second straight contest with the Tigers holding a 15-13 edge in the game. It marked the first time all season the Rebels had lost in that category in back-to-back games.
UP NEXT:Ā The Rebels will stay in Colorado Springs for a Sunday contest at Air Force. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. PT
QUOTABLE:Ā
"Tough result for sure. I truly felt like we did more than enough to earn a road result, but we have to be a bit better in some key moments, especially when the game is so tight. That said, we are really looking forward to getting back on the field Sunday at Air Force."
