UNLV head coach Kristie Fox, a two-time All-American and NCAA National Champion for the Wildcats, honored at Arizona's Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Friday, August 31 .
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com)Â - UNLV softball second-year head coach Kristie Fox was inducted in to the Arizona Athletics Hall of Fame at a ceremony this past weekend. Fox is part of a nine-member 2018 class that was honored at a formal ceremony and dinner on Friday, August 31 and was recognized during halftime of Arizona football's home opener on Saturday, September 1.Â
A San Diego native, Fox was a four-year starter and two-time All-American for the Wildcats from 2004-07, starting 247 of 248 games at shortstop over her four collegiate seasons. She helped the Wildcats advance to the Women's College World Series three times, including back-to-back NCAA National Championships during her junior and senior years (2006 and 2007). As a senior, she set a WCWS record with 11 hits, helping the school to its eighth national crown in softball. She finished her career with a .352 batting average, 46 doubles, 48 home runs, 230 RBI and a .612 slugging percentage.
"It was an honor to enter the University of Arizona Sports Hall of Fame this weekend," said Fox. "This moment for me was really about thanking all the people that made this possible. I would not have been able to accomplish any of this without the values, morals, and work ethic that my family instilled in me. Their love and support made it possible for me to choose an amazing university. I joined a great school with a passionate athletic department, rich softball tradition, great coaches and teammates and alumni that pushed me to become the best I could. This honor is shared with all of them."
Fox took over the UNLV softball program in the summer of 2017 and led the Rebels to an outstanding 2018 campaign in her first season at the helm. The Scarlet and Gray began the season 20-8, marking their best start since 1996, and went on to finish 33-20 - their most wins in eight years and first winning season since 2011. The 33 wins were also the most by a first-year head coach in program history. UNLV won 12 of its last 16 games - including a series win over eventual Mountain West champion Boise State and a historic sweep at Fresno State - to reach the postseason for the first time since 2009 as the Rebels were the No. 1 overall seed in the National Invitational Softball Championship tournament.
The Rebels begin fall ball September 24.Â
