LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV will honor the 50th anniversary of its first football team at the home opener Saturday vs. UTEP, which kicks off at 6 p.m.
 
That 1968 squad of Rebels was still a year away from being known as UNLV -- as it played a lone season under the name Nevada Southern University. NSU -- led by original coach Bill Ireland -- played its home games at old Cashman Field and enjoyed stunning success for a fledgling college squad, winning its first eight games before falling by four points in the season finale to Cal Lutheran.
 
The 1968 team was part of the inaugural class inducted into the UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame in 1987. Coach Ireland's widow, Jeanne Ireland, is scheduled to take part in the pregame coin toss and all members able to attend Saturday's game will be recognized on the field during halftime.
 
To celebrate, a specially made NSU Rebels '68 pennant can be picked up by all season ticket holders and three-game plan purchasers at the Rebel Block Party before Saturday's kickoff (one pennant per season ticket or three-game plan purchased). Season tickets for 2018 start at $230 on the Sidelines and $130 in the End Zone. A limited number of Value End Zone Season Tickets are available in the North end of Sam Boyd Stadium for just $99.
 
There is also a special three-game Eat-All-You-Can Plan still available that includes UTEP, Fresno State and UNR along with unlimited Nathan's hot dogs, nachos, popcorn and soda -- all starting at just $79 per ticket.
 
Advance single-game prices start at just $42 on the Sidelines, $24 in the End Zone and $17 in the Value End Zone for five of the games (UTEP, Prairie View A&M, New Mexico, Air Force and Fresno State) while premium-game pricing for the Battle for the Fremont Cannon vs. UNR starts at $58 on the Sidelines, $36 in the End Zone and $24 for the Value End Zone. Additional fees apply to all sales and all prices increase by $5 per ticket on the day of game.
 
UNLV has also introduced the Better Seats Promise. Ticket plan holders are guaranteed better seats than single-game purchasers. Other season ticket packages include faculty & staff, alumni and groups.
