Musovski Heads Rebels To 3-1 Home-Opening Victory

UNLV stands at 4-1 after first five games of the season.

UNLV senior defender Adam Musovski turned in the first two-goal performance of his career to lead the Rebels to a 3-1 victory in their 2018 home opener over Wofford Friday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field in front of 1,500 fans. The Rebels moved to 4-1 on the year with the victory on the first day of the Johann Memorial Classic. The other game of the first day was held in Riverside, California, where Cal Baptist and Cal State Fullerton played to a 1-1 tie. Both teams will now come to Las Vegas on Sunday, as Wofford and Cal Baptist will face off at 4:30 pm before the Rebels finish off the event by hosting the Titans of Cal State Fullerton in a 7 pm match.

UNLV led 2-0 at the break, but did allow Wofford some hope in the second half after the Terriers' only shot on goal resulted in a score to bring them within 3-1. Wofford could not get another shot off at goal and UNLV would post another score to put the game away in the 85th minute.

REBEL OF THE GAME: Musovski, a Las Vegas native, has shown the ability to score with his head off set plays, and he would accomplish that feat twice in the first 37 minutes of the game Friday. After Wofford was called for a foul on the left side, Nico Clasen sent a high free kick to the far post, where Musovski came in and headed it down for the score and 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute. A corner kick by Clasen in the 37th minute from the left side again found the far post, where Musovski this time leaped up and was able to head the ball to the high left post for the score, putting UNLV up 2-0.

STAT OF THE GAME: The Rebels held a 15-6 edge on total shots, and allowed just one all night on goal.

QUOTABLE:
"I think it was a good team win, it was good to come out early and score two goals on great balls by Nico, but this was a good team win in front of a great crowd."
- UNLV senior defender Adam Musovski

"We haven't scored on many restarts this year, this might have been the first we've gotten this year. For Adam to get both of them, they were great goals tonight."
- UNLV Head Coach Rich Ryerson
