LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team improved to 4-1 in Mountain West play for the first time in seven seasons with a 94-56 win over San José State Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The Runnin' Rebels (10-7, 4-1) raced out to a 39-9 lead thanks to a 21-3 run and led 46-25 at halftime.
Four UNLV players scored in double figures: freshman forward Joel Ntambwe (16), senior guard Noah Robotham (13), senior guard Kris Clyburn (12) and freshman guard Bryce Hamilton (12). Junior forward Nick Blair grabbed a game- and career-high 12 rebounds.
San José State (3-14, 0-5) was led by Michael Steadman's 14 points.
STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV made 9 of 18 3-pointers in the first half, finishing the game at 48.4 percent (15 of 31). The 15 makes were a season high for the Runnin' Rebels.
RUNNIN' REBEL OF THE GAME: Robotham dished out a career-high-tying eight assists with just one turnover. He was 5 of 8 shooting, including 3 of 6 on 3-pointers.
NOTES:
- UNLV improved to 38-6 all-time vs. SJSU, including 20-2 at home.
- UNLV's last 4-1 start in MW play was in 2011-12 when it started 5-1 before suffering its second loss.
- This was UNLV's largest margin of victory since defeating Florida A&M 106-66 to open last season.
- Seven Runnin' Rebels made at least one 3-pointer vs. SJSU and all 11 that played in the contest scored.
- UNLV ran its record to 4-0 in games where it makes at least 50 percent of its shots. The Runnin' Rebels made 52.3 percent against the Spartans (34 of 65).
- UNLV recorded a season-high 11 steals.
- UNLV recorded assists on 23 of its 34 made shots.
- UNLV recorded 17 fast-break points, while SJSU had none.
- Sophomore forward Mbacke Diong missed his second straight game because of an injury suffered at New Mexico on Jan. 8
- Ntambwe scored in double figures for the 10th straight game.
- UNLV has out-rebounded its opponent in 16 of its 17 games this season, including 44-37 vs. SJSU.
- UNLV has made at least one 3-pointer in a NCAA-record 1,056 straight games.
