LARAMIE, Wyoming (UNLVRebels.com) - For the second straight year UNLV ran into a blistering hot Wyoming squad, as the Lady Rebels saw the Cowgirls knock down 14 three-pointers and shoot 58.9% overall for the game Saturday afternoon in a 90-62 setback in Arena Auditorium. The Cowgirls finished the game shooting 14-of-23 from three-point range for 60.9%, the second-best mark in Wyoming history, just ahead of the 58.3% (14-of-24) they had in their victory over UNLV in Laramie in the 2017-18 season.
The Cowgirls hot streak started from the beginning, as after Katie Powell gave the Lady Rebels a 2-0 lead, Wyoming hit its first three shots from the floor, and would end the quarter connecting on 10-of-16, including 5-of-7 from three-point range. UNLV could not slow down the Cowgirls in the second or third quarters, as they shot 66.7% in both those 10-minute stretches, and were a combined 7-of-13 from behind the arc.
UNLV did have one of its better offensive games of the season, scoring 62 points while shooting a season-high 46% from the floor and 46.2% from behind the arc, but the Lady Rebels only won one of the quarters on Saturday (19-13 in the fourth).
THE KEY STAT: Wyoming's Quinn Weidemann scored a game and career-high 24 points off the bench, which included a 7-of-8 performance from three-point land. Wyoming would outscore UNLV by 24 points on three-point field goals.
LADY REBEL OF THE GAME: Powell, in her second game back after a month-long absence due to an injury, shot 6-of-12 for 20 points.
LADY REBEL NOTES:
* Wyoming held a 25-13 edge on second-chance points, and 36-13 on points off the bench.
* Joining Powell in double-figures was Paris Strawther, who has also missed significant time this season with an injury but would score a season-high 14 points.
* Wyoming's 90 points, its 26 first quarter points, 54 first half points, 58.9% field goal percentage and 14 total three-pointers were all season-highs by a UNLV opponent.
