Rebels Finish 13th In Austin

Sophomore Veronica Joels led UNLV with a tie for 11th individually at Betsy Rawls Invitational.

AUSTIN, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team shot a final-round 12-over-par 300 Sunday at the Betsy Rawls Invitational, which was hosted by Texas at UT Golf Club (par 72, 6,353 yards).

The Rebels finished 13th as a team at the event with a 54-hole score of 40-over 904. 

Texas won the tournament by two shots over Kent State at 19-under. Oklahoma State was third at 13-under, followed by Miami in fourth at 6-under. Maryland rounded out the top five at 5-over.

Individually, Oklahoma State's Isabella Fierro shot 7-under during the final round and earned medalist honors by five shots at 15-under. Kent State's Pimnipa Panthong and Colorado's Kirsty Hodgkins each tied for second at 10-under.

UNLV sophomore Veronica Joels led the Rebels at even par, tying for 11th.

There were a total of 15 teams and 78 individuals competing.

STAT OF THE TOURNAMENT: Only four teams finished the event under par.

REBEL OF THE DAY: Joels' final round consisted of two birdies and two bogeys.

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will be back in action, Sunday-Monday, Oct. 20-21, at the Jim West Invitational in San Marcos, Texas.

NOTABLE:
• UNLV has a new look with just three returners from last year's roster. Six new faces have joined the 2019-20 squad.
• Prior to the 2018-19 season, UNLV had won three straight Mountain West titles and made a NCAA postseason appearance in 16 consecutive years.
• Head coach Amy Bush-Herzer is in her ninth year at the helm of the program. She has led her team to a conference championship four times.
