The second annual tournament will take place Monday and Tuesday at Spanish Trail Country Club
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com)Â -Â Fresh off its first win of the year, the UNLV women's golf team will turn its focus to the second annual Rebel Beach Showdown at Spanish Trail Golf Club, February 18 & 19. The event, which is co-hosted by UNLV and Long Beach State, will take place on a Par-72 6,355 yard course with 36 holes played Monday and a final 18 holes on Tuesday. Both days will begin with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. PT.
The Rebels will try to keep the winning momentum going into their last Las Vegas tournament of the year. UNLV opened spring this week with a 37-stroke victory at the Battle at Boulder Creek and saw senior Elizabeth Prior and sophomore Polly Mack tie for first at even to take medalist honors. All six Rebels competing finished in the top seven of the tournament as well.
The individual win was Prior's third of her career and second in the event - she won it as a freshman in 2016 - while reigning Mountain West Player of the Year Mack picked up her first collegiate title. Each used a 4-under 68 round to catapult them to first, with Prior's coming in the first round and Mack's in the final round. The 68 matched a low for Prior this year, while Mack's 68 was one stroke off her career single-round score of 67, which she had captured on the same course as a freshman last year.
For their nearly identical performances, Prior and Mack were named co-Mountain West Women's Golfers of the Week - a first career honor for both.
After Rebel Beach, UNLV will head out on the road to Long Beach to play in LBSU's Gold Rush tournament, February 25 & 26, marking a third straight week of competition for the Rebels. After Gold Rush, UNLV will get a bit of a break before Arizona's Wildcat Invite, which is set for March 11 & 12 in Tucson, Arizona.
THE LINEUP:Â Â The UNLV lineup at the Rebel Beach Invitational will be senior Elizabeth Prior, sophomore Polly Mack, freshman Veronica Joels, senior Shannon Oh and senior Alyssa Getty. Sophomore Cathy Liu will be playing as an individual.
THE FIELD:Â The 2019 Rebel Beach Invitational will be represented by a field of 16 teams including co-hosts UNLV and Long Beach State. Joining the Rebels and 49ers will be Arizona; BYU; Charlotte;Â Colorado State; Colorado; Fresno State; UNR; New Mexico; Northern Arizona; UC Irvine; Oregon, Virginia, New Mexico State and San Jose State.
