LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team opened its second annual Rebel Beach Invitational Monday at Spanish Trail Country Club and finished the day within striking distance of first place as second round play was suspended due to darkness.
The Rebels finished round one in a tie for first after shooting a 2-over 290 as a team over the first 18 holes, then ended the day four shots off the lead at 9-over with a few holes left to play in the morning.
Senior
Elizabeth Prior was atop the leaderboard after round after carding a 4-under 68 and will take a one-shot lead at 4-under into the end of round two on Tuesday morning. Fellow senior
Shannon Oh had an impressive first round with two birdies and two bogeys to finish even and is in a tie for 12th heading into Tuesday. Sophomore
Polly Mack, who sits tied for ninth, shot a 76 in round one but rebounded with a 2-under in round two as one of a handful of golfers who was able to finish both rounds Tuesday. Sophomore
Cathy Liu, playing as an individual, is currently in a tie for 23rd at 7-over, while senior
Alyssa Getty and freshman
Veronica Joels are both tied for 40th at 11-over.
Arizona will start Tuesday in the lead at 5-over, while San Jose State (+13), Virginia (+19) and Colorado (+23) round out the top five.
REBEL OF THE DAY: For the second straight tournament, Prior shot a 68 in the opening round, which included three straight birdies at the beginning around.
NEXT UP FOR THE REBELS: The second round will finish in the morning starting tentatively at 8:30 a.m. PT. The final round will follow immediately after that.
