Men's Tennis Announces Two Signees For Fall

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men's tennis has signed two new players for next season, head coach Owen Hambrook announced Wednesday.

Anton Ornberg and Jackson Atherton both signed a national letter of intent with the school and will be freshmen for the Rebels this fall.

Ornberg is a native of Stockholm, Sweden, who has been ranked as high as No. 2 in his country for his age group and rose as high as 273 on the ITF junior tour. A three-time winner on the junior tour, Ornberg has also represented Sweden in the European Championships.

"I'm really excited for Anton to be a Rebel," said Hambrook. "He has consistently been one of the top Swedish juniors and will be a big part of our success for the future."

Atherton, from Tulsa, Oklahoma, is a three-star signee ranked No. 173 in the nation by Tennis Recruiting Network. The product of Tulsa's Tucker Tennis Academy ranked as high as No. 3 in his state and fifth in the Missouri Valley.

"Jackson is a player with a ton of potential and is very athletic," Hambrook said. "His best tennis is ahead of him and we are looking forward to see him in action this fall."

The Rebels are off to a 6-1 start this season and next host NAU Friday starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission to all matches at the Fertitta Tennis Complex is free of charge.
