SAN DIEGO, California (UNLVRebels.com) - Trailing by three points early in the final quarter, UNLV finished the game on a 21-5 run over the final 7:19 to claim a season sweep of the San Diego State Aztecs with a 62-49 road victory in Mountain West women's basketball action Saturday afternoon from Viejas Arena. UNLV improved to 8-7 in the MW (10-16 overall) and held onto sole possession of fifth place in the league standings, while the Aztecs dropped to 10-15, and 5-9 with the loss, their first at home in four games.

UNLV jumped out early on the Aztecs by scoring 11 of the first 13 points of the game. The Aztecs closed within 14-10 at the end of the first quarter though, and slowly cut into the UNLV lead before taking their first lead of the game, 26-25 on a jumper at the halftime buzzer. SDSU then opened the third quarter with a basket before Jordyn Bell hit back-to-back treys 28 seconds apart to put UNLV back ahead 31-28. The Lady Rebels led the rest of the quarter until again the Aztecs scored the final basket to go into the fourth quarter up 40-39. The lead stretched to three points, 44-41 with just under eight minutes to go.

THE TURNING POINT: SDSU was called for a foul at the 7:19 mark on a Paris Strawther jumper, and Naje Murray was then whistled for a technical foul while contesting the original foul. That awarded UNLV four straight free throws, and the Lady Rebels made three of four to tie the game. A turnover and two missed shots by SDSU led to six more points for UNLV, for a 9-0 run and a 50-46 lead. The Aztecs scored at 4:22 to cut the deficit to 50-46, and then UNLV responded with a 10-0 spurt to put the game out of reach, as SDSU did not score again until the final 48 seconds.

STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV shot a season-high 50% (8-of-16) from three-point range, while the Aztecs made three-of-11 for 27.3%. The eight made treys also tied for a season-high for the Lady Rebels.

LADY REBEL OF THE GAME: Senior Katie Powell posted a team-high 14 points and also added seven rebounds for UNLV.

QUOTABLE: "Good win for the Lady Rebels. Everyone stepped up in a big way. Jordyn Bell and Bailey Thomas both stepped up today and our team was just playing together, they were playing right and when you do good things happened. We had so many different people contributing and that's what you want to see happen at the end of the season."
- UNLV head coach Kathy Olivier
