Runnin' Rebels Win Regular-Season Finale At Colorado State, 65-60

UNLV men's basketball tallies 11 Mountain West victories for first time in eight years.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's basketball senior guard Kris Clyburn set a program record for 3-point percentage in a game as he was a perfect 6 for 6 from beyond the arc and led the Runnin' Rebels to a 65-60 Mountain West victory at Colorado State Saturday afternoon in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Clyburn scored a game-high 20 points as UNLV (17-13, 11-7) ended the regular-season with 11 Mountain West wins for the first time since the 2010-11 season. Senior guard Noah Robotham also scored in double figures for the Runnin' Rebels, contributing 12 points and a game-high eight assists with no turnovers.

The Rams (12-19, 7-11) were led by Nico Carvacho's double-double of 13 points and 20 rebounds. J.D. Paige scored 16 points, but was held to just 6 of 19 from the field. He had seven assists with no turnovers. Kendle Moore was the third CSU player in double figures with 10 points.

11 LEAGUE WINS: UNLV has recorded 11 wins in Mountain West play for the first time in eight seasons.

SEASON SWEEP: UNLV swept the regular-season series with the Rams. The Runnin' Rebels, who also defeated CSU in Las Vegas on Jan. 2 (78-76), recorded five sweeps this season going 2-0 against New Mexico, San Jose State, Wyoming, Boise State and Colorado State.

FAST START: The Runnin' Rebels made nine of their first 11 field goals and ended up shooting 57.1 percent (16 of 28) in the first half. UNLV led 39-26 at halftime.

RUNNIN' REBEL OF THE GAME: Clyburn was 7 of 8 on field goals for the game and also collected five rebounds in 37 minutes of action.

MORE ON CLYBURN'S RECORD: Entering Saturday's game, four players in Runnin' Rebel history had recorded perfect games from beyond the arc (min. 5 attempts): Freddie Banks vs. Cal State Fullerton in 1986, Stacey Augmon vs. UC Irvine in 1989, Jermaine Lewis vs. New Mexico in 2001 and Jerome Seagears vs. Air Force in 2016. Clyburn is the first player in program history to go a perfect 6 for 6 on 3-pointers in a game.

ROAD RECORD: UNLV finished the regular season with a record of 6-5 in true road games and a mark of 5-4 in conference road games, marking the program's first better-than-.500 records on the road in five seasons.

HOW IT ENDED: After seeing its 18-point lead in the second half disappear, CSU's Adam Thislewood made a 3-pointer to give the Rams a one-point lead with 2:20 to go. On the next possession, Clyburn made a contested 3-pointer to give UNLV a 59-57 lead with 1:55 to play. After a stop on the defensive end, Robotham found sophomore Mbacke Diong for an alley-oop dunk, then the Runnin' Rebels made free throws from there to close out the game.
